Food Security, trade specialization, and violence in Colombia (1916-2016)

Socioeconomic and historical approaches can contribute to the understanding of relationship between food security, agricultural trade, armed conflicts in developing countries. While market-based perspective advocates that trade is a useful way maintain security nationally, other works suggest liberalization agro-export specialization have threatened since 1980s, especially self-sufficiency capacity. In Colombia, this agrarian change dependence has also been linked surge second wave violence (c. 1980). Is there dichotomy during Colombian twentieth century? Did conflict agro-exports Second Globalization? This work contributes dichotomic debate with more nuanced view along throughout century confirms long-term going from international prices towards tropical specialization.
